I don't quite understand how you can see where to make brushstrokes when you're looking at the mirror. Wouldn't the mirror be in your line of sight blocking the view of a canvas?
Yes, you have to go back and forth to see where the brush stroke is going. Also, just at the edge, you can see how the reality checks with the brushstrokes you already laid on the canvas. It is a long game of comparison between your canvas and the model, which is why I find it very strenuous on the eyes…
You make it look easy and this inspires your viewers and encourages them to paint. Great work by a great teacher. Thank you.
Thank you for following my videos, Édouard ! As you know, I am not a teacher, just an enthusiast sharing his experiences ! 😋
Yessssss!!!! Finally!! ❤
Haha, good things come to those who wait… 😋 thank you for being here!
I have fallen in love with you.❤ Much love and peace from London UK ❤
Haha! Thanks a lot for making my wife jealous! 😋
@@mygeekfamilycotton noooo. No intention there . Love to your wife! 🥰
Just joking 😂😋
Fantastic idea 💡 😊
It is a very interesting technique, but I honestly don’t think it is for me. It allows you to create very accurate works, but you lose the « fun of the chase » in trying to make your picture emerge from a blob of paint… 😋
Great tutorial, thank you! Would you ever do a paint like Franxis Bacon video?
Thanks a lot for watching. And yes! Bacon is on my to-do list! 😋 thanks!
Nailed it man
Es acrílico siempre?
¡Hola!
Amazing video!
Grazie mille, Giovanni!
Thank you thank you thank you! What a wonderful breakdown of the process! I am headed to a plein air retreat tomorrow and really really wanted to experiment with the Van Gogh style - will be sure to tag you if my work is good enough for social media 🙌❤️
Please do! Thanks for watching! ❤️
you art my favorite art channel! please show the paintings longer in your clips.
Thank you very much! I really appreciate that! And you are right: I will try to show them longer (or more detailed view) in the future. Thanks for the feedback!
Informative and Enjoyable. I am glad you mentioned the Birth of Venus. Is this really one the first paintings exposing a woman's body ?. It is not easy to find out about the history of censorship and when such paintings were permitted to be exposed in museums. You may wish to consider this in a future episode. Thanks.
Édouard! Excellent idea! Thanks for always watching!
Amazing content!!! ❤ cheers😊
Thanks a lot for watching!
To fast
fantastic as always !
Thank you, my fellow Cotton! 😋
👍
My favorite classics to see would be Miro or Lichtenstein. I think it would also be very cool to see your take on contemporary artists like Nathaniel Mary Quinn
Hey Jake! Thanks. I did Lichtenstein previously (you’ll find it on my channel) and Nathaniel Mary Quinn would be interesting… thanks for the suggestion!
Always love your stuff my friend!!! 🖤
Thanks Logan!
Hi thanks for your vidéos. I like to learn paint like hans Hofmann
Thanks for the suggestion! I will see what I can do!
Pissarro please. Do you do watercolor
Hi Sharon! Pissarro could be nice, I’ll study him and maybe a future video? And yes, I also paint in watercolor, some videos on the channel feature that technique! Cheers!
Very informative Herve,you did a great job,as always.😍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks Cathy! ❤️
Hi I just saw landscapes by Russian artist Kandinsky - will you show me how in 7 easy steps? Thank you.
Thanks for the suggestion! I wanted to do more landscapes in the near future, so that’s perfect! And I love Kandinsky, so! 😋
@@mygeekfamilycotton Thank you, I can hardly wait!
I just don't understand the appeal of painted squares. Not hating just don't understand the appeal.
I would love to see a video on painting like Van Gogh with a landscape!
It is on my list! A bit of patience! Thanks! 😋
excellent tutorial . Love from Pakistan 🇵🇰
Thank you for watching!
The fake American accent is funny but it also hurts my ears. 😀
😂 to be honest, I have no idea where it came from. I have a lot of friends in the Midwest and they don’t talk like that at all. But in all fairness, I have the same reaction as you for Poirot’s fake French/Belgian accent 😋
au champ eliser lalaal champ eliser yooo
😂 yes!
what is the name of the painting in 12:00 ??
Hi Arturo! It is “Serenite “ by Henri Martin www.musee-orsay.fr/en/artworks/serenite-9269
Do you use a brand that has Vermillion- if so, will you tell me which it is? I can't find it online and have searched online and there does not seem to be agreement for an alternative to that color - closest seems to be either Cad Red L or M. What do you actually use? Thank you. I have enjoyed several paintings using your Van Gogh style - not ready to post yet...bold and colorful. I would love to see more LANDSCAPE videos in the Van Gogh style, acrylic version. Thank you.
Hi Lolita! Not sponsored in any way, but I am currently using PEBEO 😋, and yes: I am preparing more landscapes 😄!!!
@@mygeekfamilycotton I have spent hours trying to purchase individual colors of Pebeo - I see they have the PR188 Vermillion Red....can't find out how to purchase here in the states. I will try to contact them direct next week. Thanks, Lolita
@lolitakaloustianyoung7787 I know they are distributed in USA, but not sure how widely… I guess you could substitute for a cadmium red, that maybe more readily available?
@@mygeekfamilycotton Thank you, I will use Cad Red and continue to research availability.
as awalys, great video
Thank you so much! ☺️
Your video is interesting and informative, however, the large screen in the background with you teaching a different lesson is distracting.
Yes, sorry about it. I wanted to try something to make the background more lively and it didn’t work… I don’t do it anymore.😂
Yes!! Maxfield Parrish is one of my VERY VERY favorite artists too!! Would LOVE to see that also!!
Haha! 😋 love your enthusiasm! I will need to study a bit…
You did LEYENDECKER!!!! THANK YOU!!! THANK YOU!!! Love your painting!! THANK YOU soo much!!
Thank you!
UGH Top Ten. DELECTABLE.
Thanks for watching!
Awesome Video !
Thanks a lot!
“No” ~Neo
George Inness would be interesting.
Hey Jayson! Thanks for watching. Inness would be nice, yeah. I haven’t done a landscape in a while. I’ll keep it in mind! Cheers
Your painting is great. I like the JC L. style. If possible, you may consider one of my favorite painters "Maxfield Parrish". A pleasure to see you again.
Thank you for being here, Édouard! And, yes, Maxfield Parrish could be interesting… let me see. For next month, it looks like I am going back to the Dutch classics… 😋
First time watching your channel.
Thanks for watching! I Hope it’s not the last time! 😂😂😂
What is your palette for Rembrandt?
Hi Stephanie, I actually used my regular palette: Yellow Ochre, Vermillion, Cerulean Blue (for Rembrandt, I used it mostly to mix as a way to darken warm colors), Burnt umber, white and a little bit of black. Hope this helps!
Elizabeth Vigee Le Brun, please?
Thank you!
Thanks for watching!
I am forever looking for an effective limited palette in acrylics - do you use a limited palette or recommendations? Thank you.
I do use a very limited palette : Black(sparingly, as I usually prefer brown+blue) and white, yellow ochre, Vermillion, Cerulean Blue and Burnt umber. a bit like a variation of the Zorn Palette. I sometimes complement this with other colors when I need a more complex and particular hue : purple, vert-de-gris, lime green... that type of things... having said that, I find that, for "classical" portraits and landscapes, the limited palette is already fantastic, although a more "modern" style would call for maybe more popping colors (Maybe you can replace the ochre by a yellow?) Hope that helps?
@@mygeekfamilycotton I look forward to trying your limited palette. Have you a preferred medium - i.e. oil, acrylic? Thank you again.
@@lolitakaloustianyoung7787 hey Lolita! I usually use acrylics. Cheers
this is great
Thanks a lot!
you are marvelous in your instruction, comments. I just 'found' you, subscribed & will follow w/ great anticipation. Seriously, I've painted for years - and - learned so much today. Thank you.
Thanks a lot for watching, Lolita! I try to keep it simple and share my experience, so much of these techniques, used by the masters, can help our own styles! Cheers and see you around!
Love this! Tell me, do you ever paint in watercolor? Perhaps a watercolor like Sergeant? Thanks❤
Thanks Patty! Yes, I do some watercolor (you should be able to find some in the playlist) but never did it in Sargent’s style… maybe soon? 😋
C'est top , merci
De rien! Merci d’avoir regardé!
I love how bold your first layer of colors is. Schiele had such a new take on watercolor !
Thanks! Yes, he was very daring for the skin tones: green, orange, blue! ❤️ thanks for watching!
Ces vidéos sont absurdes. Quand on peint comme un peintre connu, on a l'air bête.
